We are an award-winning program not just in Photography but in computer art, video/film, animation, music, website design, and comic books/graphic storytelling. We focus more on the artist/photographer and see the camera as a tool for storytelling. Any camera/cell phone is welcome in class. We just want students to improve daily.
From 2019-23, 98 out of 103 (95%) BVH students passed the AP 2D Art & Design Exam, and will receive college credit.
From 2021-23, Mr. Lim served as an AP Reader for the AP Art Exams. In 2023, he was one of 300+ AP Readers who went to Salt Lake City to grade 73,996 AP Art Exams.
In Nov. 2022, Mr. Lim was awarded the Outstanding Secondary Visual Art Educator by the California Art Education Association at their Fall Conference at CSU Long Beach.
Mr. Lim's students have won, been exhibited, or will be exhibited at the Congressional Art Awards (Washington, D.C.), Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, New York Times Coming of Age in 2020, NAHS/NJAS Exhibition - National Art Education Association, Association of Texas Photography Instructors, Ninth Circuit Civics Contest, James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists, Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego County Fair, Texas Photographic Society, Riverside Art Museum, Rocky Mountain School of Photography HS Photo Contest, San Diego Art Institute, Bonita Museum, City Gallery @ San Diego City College, San Diego History Center, iVIE Awards & Student Film Festival, Athenaeum Art Center, California Center for the Arts, Escondido, Chula Vista Film Festival, and the San Diego Filipino Cinema. MR. LIM (陳老師) is a writer, teacher and photographer. He's the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Secondary Visual Art Educator from the California Art Education Association. A recovering kindergarten teacher, he teaches AP 2D Art & Design, Photography, and Filipino. He's taught 31 different classes at BVHS. And he's a proud parent of polyglot children, two of whom are twins born in the Year of the Dragon 龍, while still getting used to their pet dog and goats.
